In the year 1992, the then called Sri Maitri Association® , a small Organization under the leadership of our President Smt. B.G.Meenakshamma started a tailoring training-cum-production center under the banner of Sri Maitri Association.
It was in a small village Doddabathi, where we still have the office and Head quarters of our association, and choosing a small area as jurisdiction for its work. The first centre to help the Women of the Rural area became established in the year 1992, compassion for fellow human beings living very close to where she was living and a strong desire to do something do ameliorate the poverty of the women living in Doddabathi.
And half a dozen near by villages induced Smt. B.G. Meenakshamma to start this centre. Tailoring is an easy skill to learn if training is given and is sure to fetch employment and help earn the trained women. This is the first centre started and its result – some 600 women trained here are earning their livelihood, self employed – encouraged our association activities. Getting to work qualified, willing and dedicated men and women more with a sense of service than employment and finding new areas to commit ourselves to work, today we have grown into an association running nearly a dozen centers of utility and service. Inspiration, involvement and encouragement for all of us come from our secretary Shankar Patil. Whose enthusiasm motivates everyone. He believes in training, has undergone training of varied kind at various centers and his rich knowledge of ‘doing things’ has helped every one of us to render better service in the cause for which we stand.
If you have visited any of the Center run by Sri Maitri Association and heard about the activities of these centres of Social Unity and Service and then meet its Secretary, there is a surprise waiting for you. He is not in the mould of a regular serious Social Worker dedicated to the cause of the others, the needy privileged. He impress you not by serenity but by enthusiasm, very soon we realize that as leader of this Association he does not extract work but inspires his men to work. He has an eyes for doing everything right and cares for details.. He appears rashes looking for something to do and appreciates work when it is done.A stranger needs hardly a few minutes to become his friend you may not suddenly begin to admire him ; but certainly begin to feel that hear is someone you are happy you met.
And this is Shri, Shankar Patil, a broad – shouldered, with eyes like child, 33 years of age, born 31st August 1969. He belongs to an Agriculturist Family, the last born to Shri. Gowdra Nagendrappa and Smt.B.G.Meenakshamma after a Brother and three Sisters.
In his School and College days, he has won many Certificates both in Studies and Extra–Curricular activities. He was a sportsman, and also participated in Drama, Mono- acting and debates where he 'has won many prizes'.
He did his graduation and completed M.B.A and awarded Honorary Doctorate. He thought he would be a businessman but by some incident turned his attention do activities of Social Services in the early nineties and then there was no looking back attitude in him.
He may not have found himself cut–out for anything special or particular in his college days and immediately after that.
But once he accepted this role as a Social Worker, working through centres established for specific Social cause, he has come to accept it and has grown in efficiency, utility and stature.
To bring him this fact about his growth and personality, all that is required is list of training camps he has attended along with such other participated with make lengthy appearance.
Adding to these his study tours and participation in various Organizations as member and still that will not be the complete story of the man.
He undertook a study tour on Atrocities on women at Kalahandi in Orissa. by a Special Invitation by District Collector, Chitradurga dist.
He is associated with Rashtriya Mahila kosh, New Delhi, and has its monitor for southern states and an inspecting authority as well.
He is also a member of :
He has also been to United Kingdom and Scotland and visited many places like London, Leeds Manchester, New York etc. to study the up-liftment of Disabled persons.
The list is sure to be longer in the coming years as Shri Shankar Patil has lot of enthusiasm and committee towards social issues. In his growth will grow many more centers of social service and utility. Happily married to Smt. Bharathi, Shri Shankar Patil is a man for all seasons.
